"What should I put on my website?"

For personal website, one type of content that I think works uniquely well is the kind of page that gets updated sporadically, and is not time specific

So basically instead of making a blog post "Favorite games of 2024" you have a page "Favorite games" that you can update whenever you want and link people to

It can also be a portfolio, a blogroll, your stream schedule, list of resources...

That's not something you can have on any mainstream social platform, except maybe a public Google Docs (not gonna judge). So if you think about having your own website, this type of content is a legitimate use case that you can hardly get anywhere else

@farawaythyer haha, that's what went through my head when I stumbled upon your previous thread; but I preferred to share my thoughts on the side rather than necroposting

I agree with your other point too!

@h5e @NIGHTEN @aeva

I think you’d all be very interested in the Digital Gardening philosophy! Great link on it below. Very similar approach in terms of treating a static site as not-so-static. The notetaking app Obsidian also supports this type of thought very well, is totally free/open source, and there are a few ways to publish your notebooks directly to a site.

@pizzapatch @h5e I agree, such a cool idea! This would be my go-to if I wanted to make a wiki for example :)

Although Obsidian is not open source I use it every day!

@NIGHTEN Right!? I mean, you can fake it via the Pinned Post function on Masto and presumably other fedi platforms, as well as Tumblr, but that's still not a *great* solution because those have the very clear apperance of a dated post that's been plucked out of its timeline and pinned to the top of the feed. If you control your website, you control the exact look and feel of your favorite games, or commission prices, or whatever custom pages you want.

@pizzapatch @h5e @NIGHTEN I hadn't heard the term before, but it sounds similar to what I've been doing already with my website https://zone.dog/braindump/
